The programme includes the following sessions:
- Meet the Professor (MTP). MTP morning sessions are “State of the art” pills on a given subject, lasting 45 minutes, typically attended by people who are not experts in the field but would like to know what’s going on. The speaker is also the chair of the session.
- A Plenary Session (always at 9.30, except the last day) is a session with no contemporary parallel (typically with two or three invited lecturers and no oral communication)
- A Main Session has the same structure as a Plenary Session, but with other sessions in parallel.
- Parallel Sessions are generally composed by one or two “Keynote” invited presentations, plus a variable number of selected oral communications. Some may only have selected communications.
- A Workshop is a session organised by an external organisation, usually a national scientific society or another non-profit institution. The format and the speakers have been autonomously chosen by the organisers.
- In a Debate Session, two discussants express their (usually alternative) points of view on a controversial topic.
- A Round Table is a similar form of discussion, but open to more than two participants.
Besides the regular scientific programme, there are three Satellite Symposia:
A Symposium is a session organised and sponsored by the Industry.
